Rhaetian Railway Network. Switzerland

The one of the most beautiful railways in the World – The Rhaetian Railway is the narrow-gauge railway network in Grisons / Graubünden Canton of Switzerland with its headquarters in Chur. The German name of the network is: Rhätische Bahn; Italian: Ferrovia Retica; Romansh: Viafier Retica, the official abbreviation is: RhB.

The inauguration of first section comes back to 1888. Later since 1896 the network started its expansion until it reached 384 km. The Rhaetian Railway located within the Canton of Grisons with only one station outside the canton and Swiss border – the Tirano Station (Lombardy Region, Italy). In 2008 the UNESCO considered the part of Thusis-Tirano Section (including St. Moritz) worth of adding to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The network partly shares its tracks with Matterhorn Gotthard Railway (MGB) as well as with the standard-gauge trains of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS).
