Dear friends! With great pleasure, I would like to inform you I have just finished creating my concept of a complete diagram of the municipal transport of Riga City. Since now every resident or guest of my beloved hometown can download this scheme for free for personal use. And since Riga still doesn’t have a complete transportation diagram (imagine!), I’m going to offer this network map to the authorities of Riga City Hall. If you enjoy my map, please spread the link to your friends, send me your constructive suggestions and be free to claim mistakes! All contacts are on the top right corner of the map. Thank you!
Let me briefly tell you about the essence of my concept and what goals I pursued when I was in the process of creation. Firstly, my main target was to create a complete diagram of all municipal transportation routes, including the trolleybus, tram network, as well as bus routes. Also, very important was to make this diagram as compact as possible and, if desired, it could be printed to use at the city’s several stops. As a result, I got a very good card size – only 70×60 cm, which is simply excellent. At the same time, all the information is easily readable and intuitively understandable. Before printing, only minor changes would have to be made, but at the moment this map is fully ready to use on your mobile device or opened on the web.
So, for each type of transportation, I have chosen the following colour scheme: black for trams, light-blue for trolleybuses and dark red for buses. Railway lines are light-grey. After the decision to reintroduce night services, it will be possible to add dark-blue night lines.
Absolutely all stops are on the map, but I made a historic decision: I decided to change the names of a part of the stops because duplicating names is misleading for passengers. There are also cases when several nearby stops have different names, which also is quite misleading. I decided to unite them under one name, which also helped to make the diagram more readable and less overcrowded. I wish to initiate a discussion with the interested part of the local society on this topic.
Of course, this is the first version of the scheme, so over time there will be improvements and mistake fixes.
