The railway transit map of the Greater Tokyo Area is here!

I know, the first reaction of many of you will be the instant shock, but this is reality, guys (and girls, of course)! In the Greater Tokyo Area (officially called The Capital Region) there are more than 150 railway lines. The region unites eight prefectures (Tokyo Metropolis, Saitama, Kanagawa, Yamanashi, Gunma, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Chiba) and the part of the ninth – the Shizuoka Prefecture in one big transit system. Besides the commuter lines and Tokyo both underground lines, in the map, you will find also Yokohama Municipal Subway and Shinkansen lines, funiculars, AGT lines, monorail and rope-way lines.

The first and the main target of map creating was to include all existing transportation services (except bus routes) and at the same time to keep the map ultra-compact as hell. The next target was to find the way for very easy orientation on the map and possibility to find any line in seconds. One more target was to provide each station with readable official station identification code, but for lines without it, with new demo codes, which also helps to refer to the railway line.

I suppose it could be the first such an extremely compact, but still readable full rapid transport map to date. Who knows, maybe someone, somewhere on the other side of the planet did the same complicated work, but in this case, I’d say, we both are good guys. 😉
