After the “big dump” – the Soviet Union, which ceased to exist, the railway systems of each Baltic State became more isolated. Although the attempts to organize railway passenger traffic – neglecting the borders of countries – have been made several times, there is only one connection point between each couple of three neighbouring countries. Estonian station Valga serves as the meeting point of Estonian Tallinn-Tartu-Valga Line and Latvian Riga-Valga Line. Though, Latvia and Lithuania can be connected only by Ukrainian express Kyiv-Minsk-Vilnius-Riga, which runs once every four days.
Let’s hope that the Rail Baltica project will uncover the new brilliant travelling possibilities for the residents of the Baltic States in the foreseeable future when three countries will be connected by the high-speed line with Finland and Central Europe.
Well, as of today, all three passenger railway systems you can see on one network map, which I created for your comfort.
