Germany always was a country with innovative traditions in the transportation field. This country is like a “huge expo” showing incredible local transportation solutions almost at each corner of this big country.
In Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg (one of sixteen federal states of Germany) municipal transport authorities also found their type of local transportation called Stuttgarter Stadtbahn / SSB (Stuttgart City Rail) – the light rail system connecting most districts of the city. Some lines connect Stuttgart with the neighbouring towns of Remseck am Neckar, Fellbach, Ostfildern, Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Gerlingen.
The system consists of 20 routes including one rack rail (Zacke) and one cable rail line (Seilbahn). The SSB is well-integrated into the city transportation network along with the municipal buses and suburban railway. By the way, the SSB is a successor of Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen – the tram network.
The design layout of the rail network provided by SSB on their web page is simple and quite good, but I decided to reshape it.
